all-on-4 dental implants

Dental implants have a reputation for being one of the most secure, durable, attractive and effect solutions for missing teeth. Many people believe implants to be purely for replacing individual teeth. However, the implant technique is now being utilized in the placement of other dental solutions, including partial and full arches of missing teeth. One of the newest and most popular of these is a treatment that is known as All-on-4 dental implants.

The dental implant technique

The dental implant technique has revolutionized the way that artificial teeth are placed and secured into the mouth. In the past, solutions for missing teeth that to be secured either to healthy, natural teeth (requiring them to be permanently altered) or using special adhesive. Neither option is ideal with durability, stability and damage to teeth being the key areas of concern. However, dental implants actually replace the missing tooth root as well as the visible tooth itself. This takes the form of a titanium post which is surgically placed into the jawbone. Once in the jaw it heals around the post, encasing it permanently in the bone. This part of the process, called osseointegration, is integral to the success of dental implants. It takes several months, during which time patients are fitted with temporary artificial teeth. The implant posts are not ready to be loaded with your bespoke, artificial teeth for several months, until osseointegration is complete.

How are All-on-4 implants different to regular dental implants?

The posts placed in a procedure for single dental implants are placed vertically, at a 90-degree angle to the jaw. Their location is pre-determined ahead of the procedure, using c-rays and CT images of your jaw. This ensures that there is no interruption to major nerves or blood vessels. Single dental implants require a titanium post per artificial tooth.

All-on-4 implants facilitate the replacement of an entire arch of teeth on just four implant posts. In normal, implant-supported denture procedures, between six and ten implants are required to successfully secure and sustain an arch of artificial teeth. All-on-4 is made possible because of the unique way in which the implant posts are positioned. All-on-4 implant posts are placed at a 45-degree angle to the jaw. This has shown to give greater strength and durability to the arch, locking the implants together so that they are completely secure without the need for as many posts.

Why choose All-on-4 dental implants?

All-on-4 implants offer patients a variety of different advantages over implant-supported and regular dentures. These include:

  • All-on-4 means that fewer implants need to be placed, reducing the amount of surgery needed to restore your smile.

  • Bone grafting is less likely to be needed since fewer implants are being placed.

  • All-on-4 is less expense compared to the placement of conventional implant-supported dentures. This is because less implant posts and so less surgery is needed.

  • Osseointegration actually strengthens the bone in your jaw – something which often deteriorates with tooth loss and leads to loss of definition in the face.

  • Artificial teeth that closely resemble your natural smile.

  • A strong, durable and long-lasting solution to your missing teeth.

  • All-on-4 are considered much more comfortable than regular dentures
