Not only are our expert dentists highly trained and skilled in general dentistry services, but we’re also proud to offer pediatric dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and more to help our patients achieve healthy, gorgeous smiles. Unfortunately, for many patients, the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) can be a major source of pain and irritation. That’s why with our superior El Paso TMD treatment, we’re here to help you overcome TMD and live a pain-free life.
As the preferred dentistry serving El Paso, Culver City, and beyond—our goal is to help each patient achieve and maintain optimal dental health, and we’re committed to doing everything in our power to relieve pain. For this reason, Dr. Nima Shayesteh completed a two-year advanced training in TMD care and treatment to provide our El Paso patients with top occlusion services. Dr. Shayesteh’s training at the F.A.C.E foundation resulted in the award of a prestigious certificate for Post-Graduate Study in Advanced Occlusion, Restorative and Prosthetic Techniques. Worldwide, only 14 dentists were selected, accepted and graduated from this elite program for the 2015-2017 mentorship training. The skills he gained from this program allows him to treat patients with joint dysfunctions & pain like TMD as well as to rehabilitate & reconstruct full mouths, and perform complex services.
If you are experiencing jaw pain related to TMD, contact us here at Picasso Smiles to get started with treating your condition. Thankfully, TMD treatment in El Paso is simple and highly effective.
In some cases, periodic TMJ pain and discomfort can be relieved with certain home treatment methods. Applying a heat pack or a hot water bottle wrapped in a warm, moist towel to the jaw can reduce pain and help improve function. Ice packs wrapped in a cloth can also reduce swelling and pain. Resting the jaw by eating soft foods can help to accelerate healing, and over-the-counter pain relievers can be taken to ease discomfort.
Your El Paso dentist may prescribe jaw exercises and/or relaxation techniques to help treat your TMJ dysfunction. Gentle and gradual jaw exercises can improve healing and mobility, while relaxation techniques can help reduce pain and discomfort. Whatever your particular needs, your El Paso dentist will develop an individual plan that will have you feeling better quickly.
Clear braces, also known as Invisalign or ClearCorrect, maybe a solution if the source of your TMJ is an occlusion issue. These treatments may correct your misaligned jaw and therefore relieve TMJ symptoms. The clear aligners may also help relieve your pain right away, as they act as a shield to prevent you from biting while your jaws are misaligned. Occlusions that are more complex may require braces.
The most common TMD treatment for our El Paso patients is the use of a Face Orthopedic Stabilization Appliance (FOSA). This appliance will be custom-made by your Picasso Smiles dentist to ease irritation and relieve pain. The FOSA, designed to perfectly fit your jaw and bite, is a highly specialized appliance that is much more advanced than a traditional night guard. FOSA treatment requires two appointments, each lasting about two and a half hours. We'll use this time to make detailed measurements of your mouth, jaw, and bite, helping us design your FOSA to perfectly fit your mouth and position your jaw correctly.
The FOSA is worn each night as you sleep, and should be kept clean by brushing after wear.
